Ultra Violet Sterilisers

Private water supplies may contain micro-organisms that can be harmful if consumed. Ultra violet light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength that is shorter than visible light but longer than x-rays. This disrupts the DNA of micro-organisms, preventing them from replicating and thus de-activing their potential for infection. Ultra violet systems provide a safe, clean and economical method for sterilisation of water supplies.

Why do I need an Ultra Violet Steriliser?

Ultra violet (U.V.) sterilisers are necessary for obtaining bacteria free drinking water from untreated or micro-biologically unsafe supplies. They do not however improve the taste of the feed water and as such should be incorporated into a system comprising the appropriate water filters to remove particles and to treat the water to make it palatable.

U.V.s have a number of other uses aside from the treatment of drinking water: a fountainĀ for example may require a U.V. system to prevent a build up of algae causing a blockage and they are also suitable for use destroying micro-organisms in fish and shellfish farms.

Kills Bacteria

U.V. steriliser systems can provide bacteria free drinking water from untreated supplies for just about any application: homes, farms, restaurants etc.

Wide range of consumables

We have permanent stocks of high quality consumables such as quartz sleeves and replacement U.V. lamps for all of our U.V. steriliser systems.

Compatible with Other Systems

Ideal for use with other Aqua Cure Scotland water treatment systems.

WRAS approved

We offer an extensive range of WRAS approved, British made stainless steel U.V. purifiers suitable for applications ranging from light domestic use to commercial and process water requirements.

Technical Specifications

Aqua Cure Scotland’s water sterilisers employ a low-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp surrounded by a water jacket, the inner wall of which is made from a special UVC-transparent quartz material. The lamp produces a very strong spectral line at 245nm in the short-wave UVC region which is the waveband most lethal to micro-organisms. The UV light shines through water passing along the unit destroying the cell DNA (or RNA in the case of viruses) making the micro-organisms inactive.

Aqua Cure Scotland’s ultra violet units use a stainless steel water chamber in order to maximise the available ultra violet energy (as minimal U.V. light is absorbed into the chamber wall) resulting in long exposure times and high U.V. doses.

The water entering a U.V. chamber should be as clear and particulate free as possible. For this reason, even with mains water, we suggest using a pre-filter capable of filtering down to at least 5 microns. This could be a back-washable multi media filter, a cartridge filter or a bag filter.
